PREPARATION

Please prepare a 3 minute audition using your choice of a short monologue, contrasting musical selections, or a combination of monologue and a musical cut. An accompanist will be provided. Please also bring a picture and resume, stapled together.

BAYLEN - Male Late 30s-40. A tough police detective in Chicago. Authoritative, no nonsense.

MORRIS DIXON – Gary Essendine's (the lead) manager. Represents the serious side of Gary’s entourage.

HENRY LYPPIATT - Pompous and wealthy producer. No nonsense.

JOANNA LYPPIATT - Exquisite and sultry 30yo. Full of self-assurance and charm. Married to Henry, but has a secret longing for Garry (the lead).

MONICA REED – 40s- Gary’s longtime and long suffering secretary. Comedic

FRED – 30 or younger. Young smartly dressed valet for Garry (the lead). Pragmatic and loyal.

ROLAND MAULE – Late 20s. A young earnest man. A nervous playwright with an obsession of Garry and lack of social boundaries. Broad comedy.

DAPHNE STILLINGTON – 24 - Pretty. A starstruck debutante and infatuated with Garry.

MISS ERIKSON - Thin vague looking Swedish Housekeeper – jokingly described as a ‘spiritualist’ and eclectic. Character part / Comedic

LADY SALTBURN - A majestic but rather effusive society woman. Character part / Comedic


COME FROM AWAY: THE MUSICAL

DIANE AND OTHERS: 40-60s Female. A traditional divorcee from Texas, who is terrified that her son may have been flying at the time of the attacks. When she finds out that he's safe, she's given a new lease on life and discovers a wilder more carefree side of herself. (Others: CRYSTAL - the waitress in Gander and BRENDA - the bar owner in Newfoundland’s wife)

BONNIE AND OTHERS: 30-40s Female. Any ethnicity. A no-nonsense mother of three, Bonnie is the head of the Gander area SPCA. When she discovers animals are trapped on the planes, she stops at nothing to ensure their safety - but in frustration, she often lashes out at those around her. (Others: MARTHA - pregnant, helpful Newfoundlander. Hosts some plane people in her house)

BEULAH AND OTHERS: 40-60s Female. The head of the Gander Legion, with a firefighter son, who walks Hannah to her church and prays with her. (Others: DELORES – A stressed plane person not taking things well, who later sings a karaoke version of “My Heart Will Go On” in Gander)

JANICE AND OTHERS: Late 20s+ Female. An eager new local TV reporter, Janice is thrown into the deep end on her first day. Initially naïve about the world, Janice must face the pain and confusion around her. (Others: BRITNEY – helpful Walmart employee in Gander, FLIGHT ATTENDANT – gets nervous when Ali boards the plane heading back to the US).

BEVERLY AND OTHERS – 40s Female. The first female captain for American Airlines Pilot, Beverly Bass has always loved flying, when her world suddenly changes. Strong belt. (Others: ANNETTE: A local teacher and librarian at the Gander Academy and a mother.)

HANNAH AND OTHERS - 40-60 Black Female. The mother of a firefighter in Manhattan, Hanna waits for news about her son and is comforted by Beulah. (Others: MARGIE – Newfoundlander friend of Annette and Beulah. MICKEY – Bus driver in Gander).

CLAUDE AND OTHERS - 40-60 Male. Gruff, natural sounding Baritone. The gregarious and well-liked Mayor of Gander, Newfoundland, Claude loves his work, the townspeople and his daily traditions, but he's never had to deal with a crisis of this magnitude before. (Others: DERM – Mayor of Appleton who befriends Bob. BRENDA’S BROTHER – Newfoundlander who finds bisexuals fascinating. EDDIE – Another Newfoundlander who remembers Jewish prayers from when he was a young boy)

OZ AND OTHERS - 30-50 Male. Strong Tenor vocals. The quirky constable in the two-person Gander police force. When the town's population suddenly doubles, Oz helps out in unexpected ways. (Others: JOEY – Plane person who doesn’t mind the free liquor. CUSTOMS OFFICER, MR MICHAEL – Gander’s gym teacher who speaks a little Spanish and is proud of that fact, TERRY – Bus driver in Gander, MATTY – bar owner in Gander. At first, a threatening exterior but soon shows his soft side and acceptance, RABBI – leads praryer to calm Eddie, CARDIOLOGIST.)

NICK AND OTHERS- 40-60 Male. Baritone. An English oil engineer who is focused on his work, Nick's life is turned upside down when he falls for Diane. (Others: DOUG: An Air Traffic Controller, married to Bonnie)

KEVIN T. AND OTHERS - 30+. Caucasian Male. Tenor. The head of an environmental energy company in Los Angeles, Kevin was on vacation with his boyfriend when they are stranded in Gander. (Others: GARTH: The head of the local union, representing the Bus Drivers. PRESIDENT BUSH)

KEVIN J. AND OTHERS – Late 20s-30s Middle Eastern Male Bari-tenor. Kevin's T’s boyfriend and secretary. Sarcastic and unhappy, he is eager to leave as soon as possible. The events of September 11 make him reassess his life and his future. (Others: ALI- A Muslim from Egypt, is profile and body searched by the police at the airport, but despite adversity, he shows resilience and kindness. DWIGHT – Newfoundlander)

BOB AND OTHERS - 20-35. Black Male Baritenor. A hardened New Yorker, Bob is suspicious of where he's landed, fearing that it's World War 3, that someone is going to shoot him and steal his wallet - but instead, he ends up losing his New York jadedness. (Others - MUHUMUZA: A husband and a father. He is a protective man. CAPTAIN BRISTOL – Handsome pilot).
