Travel and Housing:

Travel and housing will be provided, along with full health insurance coverage while on tour.

Principal rehearsals will be held in New York City. Transportation and housing will not be provided. Considerations for non-New York City (and surrounding area) residents will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

Actors must be eligible to work in the US and Canada and have a current passport by the first day of rehearsal.


Seeking:

[TINA TURNER] Female identifying character, 30s, Black. The "Queen of Rock 'n' Roll", she rose to prominence as the lead singer of the husband-wife duo Ike & Tina Turner before launching a successful career as a solo performer. The piece spans through Tina’s life and focuses on Tina’s introduction into the music industry with Ike Turner and the years of physical abuse she endured during her marriage to Ike, and how she transformed her life and rebuilt her career after divorcing him. Seeking a charismatic leading actor with star quality, an excellent and versatile singing voice in the style of Tina Turner, with wide range and huge amounts of vocal stamina. Must be able to move very well. PRINCIPAL.

[IKE TURNER/RONNIE TURNER] Male identifying character, early 30s. Black. American musician, bandleader, songwriter, record producer, talent scout, and Tina Turner’s first husband. Charismatic, a showman, but also has a dangerous, vicious streak. Manipulative. Often high on drugs; prone to sudden bouts of violence. Will also play: RONNIE: Tina and Ike’s only son. Seeking a leading actor with a solid baritone singing voice. PRINCIPAL.

[ZELMA BULLOCK] Female identifying character, 40s-50s, Black. Tina’s mother. Finds it difficult to be maternal. Had an abusive relationship with Tina’s father. Tough, detached, cruel. Develops a close relationship with Ike. Resents Tina and had an estranged relationship with her. Seeking a leading actor with a powerful alto singing voice. PRINCIPAL.

[GRAN GEORGEANNA] Female identifying character, 60s, Black. Tina’s Grandmother. She’s more Tina’s mother than Zelma has ever been. Supportive and ever present. A little slower physically but still very sharp. Seeking a strong character actor with a resonant alto singing voice. PRINCIPAL.

[RHONDA GRAAM/TONI BASIL] Female identifying character, 30s years old, White. Tina’s first Manager, confidant, and close friend. Authoritative but caring. Has Tina’s best interests at heart. Rhonda started off as a business manager for the Ike and Tina Turner revue and helped Tina launch a solo career after she left Ike. Will also play TONI BASIL: Tina’s long-time choreographer. Seeking a strong actor with good movement skills, and a singer with an excellent soprano. PRINCIPAL.

[ANNA MAE BULLOCK/YOUNG CRAIG TURNER] Female identifying character, 9-11 years old, Black. Young Tina Turner. Must have a big, powerful belt in her vocal arsenal, along with good acting skills. Will also play: YOUNG CRAIG: Tina’s youngest son. PRINCIPAL.

[RICHARD BULLOCK] Male identifying character, late 30s-early 40s. Black. Anna Mae’s (Tina's) Father and Zelma’s husband. A Preacher. Full of passion, fire and spirit. Has a violent, fiery relationship with Zelma and inflicts physical abuse. Seeking a strong actor with a powerful tenor singing voice, and excellent movement skills. FEATURED ENSEMBLE.

[RAYMOND EARL KING/CRAIG TURNER] Male identifying character, 20s-early 30s, Black. Saxophone player with Ike’s band, The Kings of Rhythm. Charming. Has undeniable chemistry with Tina. Hates the abuse Ike inflicts on Tina. Has a good spirit. Will also play CRAIG: Tina and Raymond Hill’s son. Seeking a strong actor with a smooth tenor singing voice, and excellent movement skills. FEATURED ENSEMBLE.

[ROGER DAVIES] Male identifying character, late 20s-early 30s, White. Australian. The talent manager who transformed Tina’s career in the 80’s. When we first meet Roger, he is only 27. Passionate about music. Excitable, strong willed. Seeking a strong actor (with comic skills) and flexible singer, with excellent movement skills. FEATURED ENSEMBLE.

[ERWIN BACH & OTHERS] Male identifying character, late 20s-mid 30s, White. German. A Marketing Executive at Capitol Records who Tina falls in love with at one glance and later marries. The couple remained married for the rest of Tina’s life. Younger than Tina, charismatic, gentle, clearly intelligent, and handsome. Seeking a strong actor and flexible singer, with excellent movement skills. FEATURED ENSEMBLE.

[PHIL SPECTOR & OTHERS] Male identifying character, 30s, White. The prolific record producer, musician, songwriter, and businessman. Signed Ike and Tina to his label. An eccentric genius. Seeking a character actor with an excellent tenor singing voice, and great comedic instincts. FEATURED ENSEMBLE.

2. SCENES AND SONGS

For this first round, please prepare only the "initial" materials listed on the "Materials Guide" PDF in the audition materials link below. All materials and music tracks are included in the link. When recording scenes, please use a reader; and for songs, use the provided music tracks. Again, please pay attention to the guide so that you are not spending time learning and taping more material than requested.

Please upload each scene and song as separate files, ensuring that the file names match the titles provided on the materials. If a scene transitions into a song and is listed as such, combine them into one clip. Otherwise, keep everything separated.

Label scenes as Side #1, Side #2, etc., and for songs, use Song Name. Upload the files in sequential order, starting with the Slate, Sides, and Song.

Filming Guidelines:

- Frame scenes from WAIST to HEAD (not chest up), avoiding extreme close-ups.
