Usher (Part-Time)

Reporting to the Box Office & Audience Services Supervisor, the Usher plays a key role in creating a safe, welcoming space for our audiences and artists. This is a temporary, part-time position with shifts to take place between early March and May 2026.

About The New Group

Founded in 1995, The New Group is an award-winning, artist-driven company with a commitment to developing and producing powerful, contemporary theater. In addition to producing Off-Broadway productions, the organization champions original works through its New Group/New Works play and musical development program. The New Group also operates an acting conservatory and a tuition-free college access program.

Primary Responsibilities of the Usher include:

● Provide engaged customer service.

● Facilitate audience entry and egress.

● Scan tickets.

● Distribute programs.

● Greet and seat latecomers.

● Monitor the seating area for safety concerns.

● Provide on-site coverage for special events including talkbacks and open-captioned performances.

● Understand and follow The New Group’s front of house policies and procedures.

● Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

● Outstanding customer service skills and friendly demeanor.

● Ability to understand and follow procedures and the wisdom to know when to escalate matters to a supervisor.

● Ability to communicate verbally in a clear, professional and patient manner.

● Previous experience with front of house for a performance venue encouraged but not required.

● Ability to move throughout the premises, including navigating multiple levels, to provide an attentive presence.

The rate pay for the Usher is $18.00/hour. This is a temporary, part-time, hourly position with night & weekend availability required. Ushers generally work between two and three shifts per week, depending on availability, during production.

● Performances are generally scheduled in the evenings Tuesday - Sunday with additional matinee performances on Saturdays, with some exceptions.

● All Usher shifts take place on-site at the Theater at St. Clement’s.
