Bluey’s Big Play is a theatrical adaptation of the Emmy award-winning children’s television series, as seen on the Disney Channel The play features an original story by Bluey creator Joe Brumm, new music by award-winning Bluey composer Joff Bush and brilliantly crafted life-size puppets and sets.

The show made its global premiere in Brisbane, Australia, where the tour went on to break box office records for children’s entertainment all over the country. Hailed as “a glorious celebration” of everything fans love about the show (The Guardian), it’s Bluey as fans have never seen it before, brought to real life. Since then, the show has toured the world, including a 2-year North American Tour, the UK, Europe and South Africa

Position: Touring Puppet and Prop Doctor/Wrangler
Contract Dates: June 3, 2026 – 6-month contract with option to extend
Location: U.S. National Tour
Compensation: Range $1,500 to $1,700 per week (commensurate with experience) + $60/day per diem
Tour Style: Approx. 40% sleeper bus / 60% hotel accommodations

Key responsibilities:

• Attend rehearsals, load-ins, load-outs and each show of the Tour.

• Assist the Puppetry Director, Production Manager, Stage Management and performers with puppets and props.

• Ensure that all aspects of the puppets, props and all staging are maintained and repaired so that they are in impeccable working order.

• Work to be undertaken when rehearsals are not on eg. at load in/load out, sometimes after hours.

• Assist with bump in and out of puppets and props into the rehearsal room alongside Stage Management.

• Meticulously maintain the individual mechanisms controlling the puppets mouths, eyes, eyelids, eyebrows, arms and legs for each show.

• Regularly steam clean and look after the puppets so they present in impeccable order for each show.

• Work with the touring party in ensuring a professional and smooth-running Tour.

Skills & Attributes:

• Strong knowledge and experience working with large puppets and their operating mechanisms (Bankaru-style).

• Ability to troubleshoot and repair puppets and props during the show as well as in preparation for the show.

• Experience in structural reinforcement and repairs.

• Strong focus on detail with proficiency in sewing repairs and foam construction.

• Ability to fabricate replacement parts to undergo structural repairs.

• Work effectively with the touring crew, performers, Technical Director, Production Manager, and creatives to maintain integrity of the Play.

• Friendly, team worker that is willing to participate and collaborate with the touring party.

• Puppeteering experience is advantageous but not mandatory.
