SOME LIKE IT HOT is the hit theatrical stage production of the acclaimed 1959 Billy Wilder film. Featuring a book by Tony® Winner Matthew Lopez and Amber Ruffin, score by Tony® Winners Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, and direction and choreography by Tony® Winner Casey Nicholaw, SOME LIKE IT HOT opened to wide acclaim on Broadway in December 2022.

Set in prohibition era Chicago, SOME LIKE IT HOT is the glorious, big, high-kicking story of two musicians on a life-chasing, life-changing escape from the mob. The winner of 4 Tony Awards®, the Grammy Award® for Best Musical Theater Album, and named Best Musical by the Drama Desk, The Drama League, and the Outer Critics Circle, SOME LIKE IT HOT will launch a North American National Tour in 2024 and a West End Production in 2025.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Head Carpenter is responsible for the day-to-day organization and operation of the carpentry department. They are responsible for the safe use and operation of all the scenic equipment on a day-to-day basis. A successful person in this position will have excellent interpersonal skills and will collaborate with all members of the company, management, and front of house staff to solve problems calmly, efficiently, and collaboratively.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

- Prepare weekly backstage crew rehearsal schedules in consultation with other departments and stage management. Schedules should be communicated to other Pink Contract staff members and local crew.

- Maintain a shared and accessible schedule of all pink contract staff to ensure proper coverage for all shows, work calls, and rehearsals.

- Create and maintain carpentry crew swing schedule to ensure proper coverage.

- Track crew hours and provide payroll sheet to Company Management and Production Management at the end of each week.

- Prepare paperwork and schedules for future venues and correspond with venue representatives up to one year in advance of each engagement. Communicate advance information with other department heads, as needed.

- Prepare truck schedules for each move and stay in contact with the lead driver and dispatch to ensure the calls are followed.

- Prepare carpentry work call notes list for submission to Production Management and Production Carpenter.

- Verify and help complete periodic inspection of show equipment and document as needed.

- Repair or direct the repair of scenic elements, as needed. Report on inoperable items to Production Carpenter and Production Management.

- Recommend maintenance on scenery and automation equipment as observed during the normal operation of the show.

- Consult with management on the needs of the backstage crew for press and special events.

- Consult with Company Management about crew charges on the settlement weekly or at the end of each engagement.

- Consult with Company Management about trucking charges following show moves.

- Regularly run show cues on a deck carpenter track.

- Arrival on time and ready for work at the start of each call.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIRED SKILLS

- Team player, able to work long hours in very close quarters with many different types of passionate personalities.

- Understanding of the IATSE Pink Contract rules and guidelines.

- Strong organizational skills.

- Excellent communication skills via email, including keeping records of emails.

- Mastery of Microsoft Word and Excel.

- Experience working in AutoCAD.

- Scenic carpentry experience. Including: woodworking, metalworking, basic mechanics, fabric repairs, etc.

- Theatrical rigging knowledge including counterweight. Chain Motor repair skills are a must.

- Min 2 years’ experience working on an IATSE Pink Contract touring production as a Carpenter. Equivalent work experience will be considered.

- Knowledge of or experience in road venues throughout the country is a plus.

- Experience supporting an IATSE Pink Contract tour through the initial production period is a plus.

SALARY: Base Weekly Salary: $1,900 + All Applicable Overtime Per S.E.T. Pink Contract

BENEFITS: Per IATSE S.E.T. Pink Contract

TRAVEL & HOUSING: Per IATSE S.E.T. Pink Contract

START DATE: August 2024
