Breakdown

THE PEOPLE VERSUS LENNY BRUCE

SEEKING:

LENNY BRUCE: Smart, energetic, able to convey the comedic side as well l as the darker side. Warm, vulnerable and charming as a person and yet, as a performer he needs to push the envelope as much as possible. Late 30s-early 40s.

RICHARD KUH: Prosecuting attorney. Tough. Wants to get the job done at any cost. 50s--60s.

MINISTER JOHNSON: Very articulate. Loves language. Has a wonderful sense of humor. Is a fan of Lenny Bruce. 50s- 70s.

ALREADY CAST ROLES:
Narrator— CAST. this character is based on the leading first amendment lawyer Marty Garbus. Age: 70s. He is smart, thoughtful, and is at the top of his game. Though tough in the courtroom, he is softer and extremely compassionate n a personal level.

Dorothy Kilgallen— CAST. based on the acclaimed journalist and tv personality. Age: 50s. She is witty and articulate . And though she was considered to be very conservative she was a big fan of Lenny Bruce's..

Jules Feiffer— CAST. based on the award-winning writer and cartoonist. Age: 50s-60s. He clearly loves language and speaks in a measured manner, carefully articulating each of his thoughts. Another fan of Lenny Bruce's.

Herbert S. Ruhe— CAST. based on a witness for the prosecution, a former CIA agent. Age: 50s-60s. He is tough, without a great deal of integrity. Even though he knows he is lying when questioned, the truth is clearly not a priority!
