WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

We are seeking a CXLNA Technical Director to oversee the build and integration of all physical production elements for our touring shows. The right candidate will manage and coordinate sets, automation, props, lighting, sound, projection, and specialty items, ensuring they are delivered safely, on time, and to the highest standard.

This role is ideal for someone who is highly organized, solutions-oriented, and comfortable collaborating with creative, production, and vendor partners to bring each production to life.


WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

We are seeking a CXLNA Technical Director to oversee the build and integration of all physical production elements for our touring shows. The right candidate will manage and coordinate sets, automation, props, lighting, sound, projection, and specialty items, ensuring they are delivered safely, on time, and to the highest standard.

This role is ideal for someone who is highly organized, solutions-oriented, and comfortable collaborating with creative, production, and vendor partners to bring each production to life.


WHAT YOU’LL DO


Production Planning

- Work with the Executive Producer and Director of Production to explore and assess the viability of potential projects focusing on the physical production
- Formulate a preliminary technical direction for creating or acquiring the physical production elements for the show keeping in mind the show's creative intention as well as the general budget and touring parameters.
- Work with existing shows to coordinate the receipt of existing physical production assets, including attending all required production loadout to ensure all acquired assets are properly packed and shipped to the CXL Warehouse.
- Collaborate on ensuring the CXL warehouse is being used optimally and strategically for both supporting the ongoing shows, storing upcoming shows, and holding shows that have converted to rental packages.

Tour Vetting

- Collaborate with the Booking Department to technically vet all tech venues, performance venues, ensuring ample space and infrastructure are available to all show departments both on deck, backstage, dressing rooms, workrooms, and ancillary spaces.
- Routes are vetted in collaboration with the PMs (logistics of moves and crew staffing) and GMs (logistics of moving people).

Production

- Communicate with each designer the design guidelines including budget parameters, schedule parameters, and technical parameters
- Work with designers, production crew and coordinators to meet design guidelines
- Manages the bidding and awarding process for scenic/prop builds and collaborates with the Production Manager on the bidding and awarding process for LX, Audio, Projections, and specialty items).
- Oversees physical production builds (scenic, automation, shop prep)
- Oversees the rig integration, custom needs as required, and overall rig size to meet trucking and load in parameters.
- Oversees, generates, and updates truck packs and related documentation
- Oversees initial load-in and load-out into technical rehearsal venue and first stop on the tour. Attendance at additional subsequent jumps may be required based on Head Carpenter performance.

Production Crew Management

- TD collaborates with PM on the touring crew selection.
- Manages the production crews and touring crews during the initial load-in and load-out.
- Develop detailed training materials, processes, forms, advance files and timelines, email templates, and other training documents as needed to ensure touring Head Carpenters are equipped to manage, advance, and move the touring productions of which they are assigned.

Operations Head Carpenter Consultant

- Manage the technical work of all head carpenters including helping them prepare for challenging load-ins, load-outs, troubleshooting technical issues, and other technical matters during the tour.
- Travel to shows as required to ensure the technical maintenance of the touring productions is current. Additionally, conduct regular reviews of the load in and load out processes so that tours are running at optimum efficiency.
- Serve as a technical production resource for all Crossroads Live show (North America, Europe, Australia, Asia) as needed/assigned

MUST HAVE

- Strong AutoCAD and construction skills
- Ability to handle general stagehand duties and physical tasks
- Welding experience is appreciated but not required
- Ability to build, draft, and demonstrate as needed
- Occasionally required to use "dock shop" skills during tech periods

SALARY & BENEFITS

Salary range is $80-90K depending on experience with relocation assistance or relocation bonus.
