The Play Group Theatre (PGT), a Westchester based non-profit educational theatre organization dedicated to providing diverse theatre making experiences and performance opportunities to children and teenagers, is seeking Teaching Artists, Assistant Directors, Music Directors, and Choreographers for our upcoming spring season. PGT provides year-round theatre programming for students pre K - 12. All programs and performances are held in PGT’s state-of-the-art facility in White Plains, NY, easily accessible by Metro North or car.
We are seeking artists who possess imagination, flexibility and the desire to work with children and teenagers of varied ages in a creatively charged and artistically demanding, yet nurturing environment. Our teachers must be prepared to work as a member of a strong creative team, and to help our students achieve quality performances, while still giving focus to the artistic process. The ideal candidate holds a BFA/BA (/MFA/MA preferred) and can teach a variety of theatre related disciplines to a wide range of ages.
Our Theatre Lab classes program ranges from Little Theatre (ages 4-6) through Teen Conservatory (ages 13+) and cover a broad range of disciplines, including Musical Theatre, Shakespeare, Improv, On Camera, Playwriting and more; Performance programs include First Stage (ages 8-12) in our Jonah Mac Theatre and MainStage (ages 11-18) in our MainStage Theatre. Specialized programs such as Cabaret, Improv, Sketch Comedy, and Design/Tech are offered throughout the year. We seek Teaching Artists who have experience in an educational theatre setting in which they have successfully balanced a sound creative process with a quality product, all while fostering a joyful and supportive creative community environment.
PGT’s after-school and weekend programs take place at The Play Group Theatre’s facility in downtown White Plains, NY on weekday afternoons and evenings, between 4-9pm and Sunday evenings. The Spring season runs from February through June 2025.
Applicants should possess:
Minimum 3-5 years teaching and/or directing experience
excellent time management skills and the ability to juggle multiple projects at once
a desire to practice collaboration
grace and a sense of humor under pressure
a sense of playfulness balanced with a fierce work ethic
the qualities necessary to be a positive role model for children and teenagers
the ability to apply the “yes AND” rule of improv to the workplace
experience being bombarded with children and all their stuff and a good deal of noise, and thrive in that setting!
