DESCRIPTION

Tartuffe, Kiss My Ass!

Written and Directed by Joey Marcacci

Adapted from the original text Tartuffe by Molière

Tartuffe, Kiss My Ass! is a modern-political and satirical adaptation of Tartuffe by Molière. The story will focus on Orgon and her clown family, also known as the House of Blue. Tartuffe enters the House and the world that has been built begins to be questioned. In our story we will be examining what it means to be a part of a marginalized community, how imposters are able to deceive, and how assimilation can turn into complicity.

Content Warnings: possible use of a prop gun

PRODUCTION INFO

Actors will receive a transportation stipend of at least $125, and any additional profit made will go back to the actors and creative team

The Clemente Soto Vélez Cultural & Educational Center (Flamboyán Theatre)

Lower East Side, New York City

May 15th - May 17th, 2026

Rehearsals will take place 3 times a week (usually 2x during the week, 1x on the weekend) for a total of 9 hours per week. Rehearsals will begin the week of April 6th and run until our final dress rehearsal on May 14th. Important tech dates/dress rehearsals to note will take place between May 6th - May 13th, including a required load-in/tech rehearsal on May 14th. Cast conflicts are always taken into consideration and we will always work to be flexible with your schedule!

Tartuffe, Kiss My Ass! was initially written and workshopped at Muhlenberg College in 2023 as a 30-minute presentation. This iteration of the piece looks to expand on that exploration.

Your audition will be for all roles. We are looking for actors ages 18-30 and any identities. We are exploring who imposters are to marginalized communities, so queer and BIPOC actors are strongly encouraged to apply.

Actors should have a comfort in moving their bodies and a familiarity with verse text. We are looking for actors who are prepared to step not only into their role, but into a collaborative space as we devise, experiment with movement, and build our world through clown, circus, and Commedia dell’arte. Rehearsals will include tablework, devising sessions, movement explorations, and clown/mask work. The final production will be a fully-realized staged play with a 60-75 minute runtime.
