BREAKDOWN

TANTRUM THEATER COMPANY 2024 SEASON
Tantrum Theater is based in Athens, OH—an idyllic small-town dating back to 1811 located in the southeastern corner of Ohio and nestled in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. Athens has beautiful hiking trails, a large campus, an independent art cinema, many restaurants and bars, in addition to over twenty-six miles of paved bike paths along the Hocking River. Tantrum, a Tier-1 URTA theater, was founded in 2015 as Ohio University’s professional producing theater and acts as a supplement to the experiential learning of students within the School of Theater at Ohio University. We are coming off an exciting season with a completely sold-out run of 9 to 5 The Musical and looking for actors who are excited to act as professional role-models for both Graduate and Undergraduate students while working alongside other professional actors, designers, directors, and technicians.

SEEKING:

PRIDE & PREJUDICE
by Kate Hamill
Directed by Sullivan Canaday White

SYNOPSIS: This isn’t your grandmother’s Austen! Bold, surprising, boisterous, and timely, this P&P for a new era explores the absurdities and thrills of finding your perfect (or imperfect) match in life. The outspoken Lizzy Bennet is determined to never marry, despite mounting pressure from society. But can she resist love, especially when that vaguely handsome, mildly amusing, and impossibly aggravating Mr. Darcy keeps popping up at every turn?! Literature’s greatest tale of latent love has never felt so theatrical, or so full of life than it does in this effervescent adaptation. Because what turns us into greater fools…than the high-stakes game of love? In this regency game-show mashup, endurance and flexibility and the skill to work with a British (RP) dialect will be necessary.

SEEKING:
Mr. Darcy: Late 20s - mid 30s. One of the richest men in England. Too proper for his own good; awkward in most social contexts. Prides himself on self-control and good judgment. Aloof and unapproachable.

THE PROM
Book & Lyrics by Chad Beguelin – Book by Bob Martin – Music by Matthew Sklar.
Directed and choreographed by Steve Pacek

SYNOPSIS: Four eccentric Broadway stars are in desperate need of a new stage. So when they hear that trouble is brewing around a small-town prom, they know that it’s time to put a spotlight on the issue…and themselves. The town’s parents want to keep the high school dance on the straight and narrow—but when one student just wants to bring her girlfriend to prom, the entire town has a date with destiny.

SEEKING:
Barry Glickman: High Baritone, Low Tenor/Belt - Mover - Flamboyant Broadway star. Completely politically incorrect and doesn’t know it. Longs to give Emma the prom he was unable to have as a teen.

Dee Dee Allen: Alto/Belt - Mover - Broadway diva. A huge ego to match her huge talent. Hilariously self-involved, but yearns to do something good for someone other than herself.

Angie Dickinson: Alto/Belt - Dancer - An ensemble member in the Broadway production of Chicago. Jaded Fosse girl with a heart of gold.
