DESCRIPTION

Greenbrier Valley Theatre, the State Professional Theatre of West Virginia, is seeking to hire a touring Stage Manager to champion our spring educational touring program. The educational program is designed to bring theatrical workshops to the non-theatre classroom. The program aims to create a larger arts footprint in West Virginia and to provide greater arts access to students in rural areas. The Stage Manager will travel with two Teaching Artists to elementary and middle schools across the state and teach a catalog of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) and SEL (Social-Emotional Learning) workshops as well as perform a brand new two-person play about a unique piece of West Virginia history.


The Stage Manager and Teaching Artists will undergo training in order to teach the workshops and rehearsals for the play. They will be responsible for driving from Lewisburg to schools across the state, managing materials to bring to the classrooms, teaching workshops, constructing and tearing down sets, and preparing and packaging show materials i.e. costumes and props. The Stage Manager will be responsible for communicating with supervisors at GVT as well as school administrators to verify teaching schedules. If there are dates that are not booked, the Stage Manager may be asked to assist with the Education Department or Company Management (booking travel and lodging), depending on their skills. The Stage Manager and Teaching Artists are representatives of Greenbrier Valley Theatre and are expected to behave professionally while in Lewisburg or on tour.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Maintain all staging touring equipment & inventory including consumables

  • Maintain the integrity of the show at all times

  • Build, maintaining, and nurture all relationships within the company and with schools

  • Assist with other technical departments when required including audio/lighting/costume

  • Schedule daily calls based on the provided itinerary

  • Contact schools in advance each scheduled performance

  • Report to office daily

  • Operates sound and lighting cues

  • Submit and code credit card, debit card, and petty cash receipts via an online portal

  • Manage hotel check-ins, check-outs, and address any onsite hotel issues.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Successful candidates will possess the following attributes:

  • An undergraduate degree in theatre or stage management-related field, or equivalent experience

  • A minimum of 2 years experience in stage management, preferably with productions designed for young audiences

  • Professional attitude and commitment to your work

  • Attention to detail

  • Ability to work under pressure and solve problems

  • Be a collaborative team player who is also self-motivated and can work autonomously

  • Friendly, positive attitude and outgoing demeanor

  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills (both written and verbal)

  • Must be a collaborative-minded professional who works well with others

  • Must be able to adapt to changing circumstances

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously with strong attention to detail

  • Experience in touring or being comfortable with being self-sufficient whilst on the road and away from Lewisburg

  • Comfortability working with and near children

  • Proficiency in Google Suites, with knowledge of QLab a plus


Contract Length: January 6 - April 25, 2025 (2.5 weeks training, 13 weeks touring)

Pay: $650-700/week, housing and transportation to and from Lewisburg provided, company touring vehicle provided

Must be able to pass a background check and have a valid driver’s license
