American Girl/די אַמעריקאַנערין Play
New York, NY
US
Seeking actors for American Girl/די אַמעריקאַנערין, premiering at the New York Theatre Festival in June.
American Girl is a 65 min one-act written by Lonnie Miller and directed by Is Perlman. It’s a Jewish coming-of-age play about a 3rd grader who, tired of being left out by the girls at school, turns her friend’s Rebecca Rubin™ American Girl Doll into a golem. Together, they engage in the time-honored tradition of their foremothers: to wrestle against the idealized image of Jewish-American girlhood – both real and plastic.
This will be American Girl’s first staged production.
Note: The play is mostly in English, but a few lines are spoken in Yiddish (noted by character in the breakdown.) Language coaching will be provided for these moments, but experience with the Yiddish language is a plus.
