From Verona to Cornwall, the classic arts scene in New York is never quiet. Here is just a sampling of some of the classic arts events happening this week.

Marin Alsop will lead the Philadelphia Orchestra at Carnegie Hall March 31 in the New York premiere of John Adams' The Rock You Stand On, a Carnegie Hall co-commission. The program will also include selections from Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet, as well as a performance of George Gershwin's Piano Concerto in F, with soloist Hayato Sumino.

The Metropolitan Opera's new production of Wagner's Tristan und Isolde plays its final sold-out performances this week, including an added final performance April 4. Soprano Lise Davidsen stars as Isolde in Yuval Sharon's staging, alongside tenor Michael Spyres as Tristan, mezzo-soprano Ekaterina Gubanova as Brangäne, baritone Tomasz Konieczny as Kurwenal, and bass-baritone Ryan Speedo Green as King Marke. At the April 4 performance, Stuart Skelton and Stephen Milling will take the place of Spyres and Green respectively.

Works & Process at the Guggenheim will present a preview of Kaija Saariaho’s Innocence March 30, ahead of the opera's April 6 Metropolitan Opera premiere. Met General Manager Peter Gelb will moderate a discussion with members of the creative team, and cast members will perform selections from the score.

The American Modern Opera Company will present AMOC* Up Close: On the Hinge of Modernity at Lincoln Center's David Rubenstein Atrium April 2. The free performance spotlights the works of Dario Castello (1602-1631) and Luciano Berio (1925-2003), two Italian composers right on the cutting edge of their respective eras. The program is curated by Emi Ferguson, who will also play the flute, alongside Matthew Aucoin on piano and percussion, and a string trio comprising Miranda Cuckson, Keir GoGwilt, and Coleman Itzkoff.

Contemporary dance company Hubbard Street Dance Chicago continues its two-week residency at the Joyce Theater through April 5. The company performs two programs. In the first week of the residency, they will perform Nacho Duato's Gnawa, Bob Fosse and Gwen Verdon's Sweet Gwen Suite, and Aszure Barton's Blue Soup. The second week's program will include James Gregg's Within the Frame, Bob Fosse's Percussion IV, and Matthew Rushing's Beauty Chasers.

The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center will present a concert of Beethoven and Britten March 31 at Alice Tully Hall. Pianists Anne-Marie McDermott and Evren Ozel will join a string trio comprising Paul Huang, Daniel Phillips, and Sterling Elliott to perform Beethoven's Trio in G major for Violin, Viola, and Cello, Britten's Sonata in C major for Cello and Piano, Haydn's Trio in G major for Piano, Violin, and Cello, and Saint-Saëns' Sonata No. 1 in D minor for Violin and Piano.
