Broadway News Broadway's Wicked Will Welcome 2 New Witches in March

Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman's international hit continues at the Gershwin.

The Broadway production of the international hit musical Wicked will welcome two new witches to the Gershwin Theatre this spring.

Beginning March 3, Keri René Fuller, who is currently the standby for the role of Elphaba, will assume the role full time, while Emma Flynn, who played Cher in the West End musical Clueless, will make her Broadway debut as Glinda.

Fuller and Flynn will succeed, respectively, the history-making Lencia Kebede and 13's Allie Trimm, who will play their final performances March 1.

Fuller has also appeared on Broadway in SIX, Jagged Little Pill, and Waitress. A graduate of The Hartt School of Music, Flynn's U.S. regional credits include Guys and Dolls, Beautiful, and Legally Blonde.

Additional new principal casting will be announced in the coming weeks.

The Broadway company also currently features Brad Oscar as The Wizard, Jenna Bainbridge (Suffs) as  Nessarose, Tony nominee NaTasha Yvette Williams (Some Like It Hot) as Madame Morrible, Daniel Quadrino (The Who's Tommy) as Boq, Jordan Litz as Fiyero, and William Youmans as Doctor Dillamond.

Wicked began previews on Broadway October 8, 2003, with an official opening October 30. The original cast included Tony winners Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth as, respectively, Elphaba and Glinda. Currently the fourth longest-running show in Broadway history, the production celebrated its 20th anniversary in October 2023.

With music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and a book by Winnie Holzman, the musical is based on the novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire.

The Joe Mantello-helmed production features musical staging by Wayne Cilento, scenic design by Eugene Lee, costume design by Susan Hilferty, lighting design by Kenneth Posner, sound design by Tony Meola, projections by Elaine J. McCarthy, wig and hair design by Tom Watson, music supervision and arrangements by Stephen Oremus, orchestrations by William David Brohn, and dance arrangements by James Lynn Abbott. Casting is by the Telsey Office.

Wicked won 2004 Tony Awards for Best Actress in a Musical (Menzel), Best Costume Design (Hilferty), and Best Scenic Design (Lee). The first half of the two-part Wicked film, directed by Jon M. Chu, recently picked up two 2025 Academy Awards.

The musical, which reopened on Broadway September 14, 2021, following the pandemic shutdown, is produced by Marc Platt, Universal Stage Productions, The Araca Group, Jon B. Platt, and David Stone.
