About Greenbrier Valley Theatre (GVT)

Greenbrier Valley Theatre is proud to be West Virginia’s State Professional Theatre, dedicated to producing high-quality live performances that enrich our community. Our 2026 season will consist of Ripcord, The Greenbrier Ghost, Tuesdays with Morrie, The Mousetrap, and Miracle on 34th Street: The Live Musical Radio Play and we are seeking creative and versatile employees to support both the technical and design aspects of our shows over a 8-month contract.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical support during set construction, rehearsals, performances, and strikes, ensuring all equipment and stage elements are safely installed and maintained.

  • Assist in your department's execution of design elements according to production requirements and design specifications.

  • Collaborate with the Technical Director, directors, and design team to interpret design drawings and technical plans.

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workshop and storage area for work and materials.

  • Monitor inventory and coordinate repairs or replacements as needed to support production demands.

  • Support load-ins, load-outs, and strikes during production runs, adapting to variable schedules that may include evenings, weekends, and peak production periods.

  • Work backstage as run crew for productions as assigned

Required Experience & Skills

  • Demonstrated experience in your desired department's skills, and/or general theatre production.

  • Proficiency in machine & hand sewing, carpentry, fabrication, and painting techniques with the ability to work with various materials. (as relevant to job type)

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, and design plans.

  • Physical capability to lift, move, and construct sets and use of ladders & vertical mast lifts, including the ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

  • Flexibility to work variable hours, including evenings and weekends as production schedules demand.

  • Be able to successfully pass a background check.

Preferred Experience & Skills

  • A degree in Theatre, Design, or a related field is preferred.

  • Experience working in a professional theatre environment.

  • Knowledge of modern prop fabrication techniques and materials.

  • Familiarity with safety protocols and best practices in a technical theatre setting.

Employment Details

  • Salary range for this position is $500 per week for the 8-month contract

  • Out of town seasonal hires receive a private bedroom with a shared bathroom, living and kitchen space within walking distance of the theatre. Housing is furnished, and basic kitchen supplies and bedding are provided. There is access to complimentary laundry facilities and wifi.

  • A travel stipend of $150 will be offered for this position.

  • The contract begins April 13, 2026 and concludes on December 22, 2026.

  • This is a full-time position requiring a variable schedule to meet production demands, including day, weekend, and evening hours. Compensation on a standard 40-hour work week. Overtime is paid in accordance with state and federal law with managerial approval.

  • US work authorization is required.

  • All seasonal employees must have a valid drivers license and reliable transportation.
