Hours - 20/week (On & Off Season)

  • Feb 23 - Jun 14 (Off Season)

  • Jun 15 - July 19 (On Season)

A tech assistant will work under the technical director, stage supervisor and production manager in construction and installation of theatrical scenic and lighting and audio/visual elements for productions and rentals at Passage Theatre.

Key Responsibilities

  • Hanging, cabling, patching, and focusing theatrical lighting instruments

  • Setting up microphones, speakers, and audio equipment

  • Operate lighting or sound boards during tech if needed

  • Helping to ensure safe operation of equipment, maintaining equipment inventory, and cleaning the stage/shop area.

  • Assisting with building and installing stage scenery

  • Assisting with troubleshooting technical issues

Skills Needed

  • Basic knowledge of lighting, audio, and stage equipment

  • Strong communication and teamwork

  • Physical stamina (lifting, climbing ladders, long hours)

  • Minimum two (2) years of technical theatre experience in educational, community, or professional environments

  • Demonstrated primary specialization in at least one production area (lighting, sound, or scenic carpentry)

  • Working familiarity across lighting, audio, and scenic departments, with the ability to assist in all areas as needed

  • Basic experience hanging and focusing lighting instruments and assisting with ETC-based lighting control systems

  • Basic experience setting up microphones, speakers, signal paths, and live sound equipment

  • Ability to assist with scenic construction, tool use, and installation of stage scenery

  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot technical issues during builds, rehearsals, or performances

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills when working with designers, stage management, and production staff

  • Ability to safely lift 40–50 lbs, climb ladders, and work in theatrical production environments

  • Familiarity with standard shop and stage safety procedures
