Spirit of the Game: The Ultimate Musical is seeking a Scenic Projection Designer to join our creative team for a non-equity showcase production at Asylum NYC. Rehearsals begin April 22, 2026 and run each weekday from 10 am to 3 pm through May 8. Tech and dress rehearsals are planned for May 12 and 13 with performances running May 14-17. The Scenic Projection Designer would join production meetings before the start of the rehearsal schedule for planning and initial design discussions, and be available for some portion of the rehearsal schedule to adapt and refine designs given the developmental nature of this new work. This new musical blends athleticism, humor, and heart, and we’re looking for a designer who can help build a dynamic visual world through projection including scenes on the island of Crete in Greece and athletic fields in different locations where the sport of ultimate frisbee will come to life.

Responsibilities include:

Designing and implementing scenic projections that support storytelling, tone, and pacing
Collaborating closely with the director, lighting designer, and creative team
Developing projection concepts for environments, transitions, and stylized moments of play and motion
Preparing and delivering all projection media and documentation for rehearsals and tech
Participating in production meetings, rehearsals as needed, and technical rehearsals

Qualifications:

Experience designing projections for theatre, dance, or live performance
Strong visual storytelling skills and a collaborative working style
Proficiency with projection design software and media workflows (e.g., QLab, Isadora, After Effects, or similar)
Ability to work within production timelines and adapt to evolving creative needs
Interest in movement-driven or athletic performance a plus
