RHINOCEROS

SEEKING:

[BÉRENGER] (THIS ROLE IS CAST.) -MALE PRESENTING. 50s–70s. The play’s main character, an ordinary man who feels disconnected from his work and the world around him. He is unmotivated and unsure of himself and is often criticized by his friend Jean for his careless attitude.

[JEAN] - MALE PRESENTING. 50s–70s. Confident, controlled, and intellectually rigid. A persuasive believer in order and certainty who makes a strong early impression. Possesses a presence, clarity, and ideological force.

[DAISY] – FEMALE PRESENTING. Late 30s– Early 50s. Fierce, instinctual, with strong animal qualities. Emotionally alive and physical. Must make a major shift as that ferocity is stripped away in favor of safety and belonging.

[BOTARD / WAITER] – MALE PRESENTING. 30s–40s. A loud, opinionated know-it-all. Contrarian, dismissive, and certain he understands what others do not. Makes a strong, immediate impression.

[DUDARD] – MALE PRESENTING Late 20s–40s. An ambitious, up-and-coming professional who is eager to stay in line.

[PAPILLON / GROCER] – MALE PRESENTING. 50s–60s. Ages flexible. Papillion carries seniority and institutional authority — the boss. When doubling as the Grocer, must shed status and play small, practical, and anxious.

[MRS. BOEUF / GROCER’S WIFE] (THIS ROLE IS OFFERED) - FEMALE PRESENTING. 50s–60s. Mrs. Boeuf is visceral, emotionally raw, boisterous, fearless, and physically expressive. When doubling as the Grocer’s Wife, must shed status into someone grounded and rooted in daily life.

[HOUSEWIFE] – FEMALE PRESENTING Late 30s-40s. A townsperson and proud cat-owner. NOTE: This track will also cover DAISY.

[OFF-STAGE STANDBY 1] – MALE PRESENTING 50s-70s. This track will cover BÉRENGER and JEAN.

[OFF-STAGE STANDBY 2] – MALE PRESENTING. Late 30s-50s. This track will cover BOTARD, DUDARD, and PAPILLON.
