DESCRIPTION

Theatre Communications Group, the national organization for theatre, is seeking to hire a Publications Business Manager. The Publications Business Manager will work with the Director of Publications and the Editorial Director to keep track of printed books inventory, circulation, and distribution; the development of ebooks; and track which titles are up for reprint and re-stickering. In addition, the Business Manager must possess knowledge of software pursuant to inventory tracking as well as royalties and translations. This position requires outstanding interpersonal communication skills, the ability to anticipate issues before they arise, strong attention to detail, and dependability. The successful candidate will be adept at working both independently and with a team.

Job requirements:

Serve as primary liaison to Consortium Book Sales & Distribution (CBSD)for active TCG Books and partner publisher titles. This includes, but is not limited to pre-sales calls, managing new and existing catalog title information and metadata, and collaborating with the Director of Publications to manage reprint needs with Ingram (IQ, iPage, Lightning Source, and CoreSource) and Sheridan.

Initiate conversations with Consortium about the print run, schedule, and pricing for new titles and reprints, working with the Editorial Director, Senior Managing Editor, and Director of Publications to determine the best approach to releases

Act as the primary point of contact for TCG Books partner publishers by managing book orders, inventory, and new and existing title metadata for our partner publishers, adjusting data as needed

Manage ebook development and conversion with Consortium and Westchester, including proofing, uploading, and activating titles within the CBSD/Ingram database

Monitor and execute sub-rights and reprint requests, verifying rights, calculating fees, creating agreements, invoicing, and communicating with the requestor

Work with the director of publications, executive leadership, and the business office on royalties and subsidiary rights to ensure accurate royalty reports for all titles and that royalty statements and payments are issued in a timely manner

Collaborate with Circulation & Sales Associate and Director of Publications to manage book sales at theatres by checking whether the member theatres have Ingram accounts, tracking book inventory as well as productions of the plays published by TCG Books and partner publishers and handling billing theatres for these book orders

Ship copies of new titles to staff, board members, designers, contributors, and relevant donors

Support as needed with offsite event book sales at conferences and festivals

Qualifications:

A deep commitment to anti-racism and inclusive practices

Sound judgment in problem-solving while coordinating and managing a myriad of logistics, orders, and requests

Possess a positive, entrepreneurial attitude and be able to work with diverse staff and constituents successfully

Innovative and entrepreneurial thinker

Proficiency with Microsoft apps, especially Excel and Outlook

Strong communication skills and high-level attention to detail

A knowledge of and deep appreciation for the arts and their important role in our society

Preferred Skills:

Experience with e-books and translations

Familiarity with Ingram and Consortium systems or similar software

Familiarity with MetaComet royalty management software or similar software

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $60,000 - $67,000 and will include a comprehensive benefits package, medical, dental & vision, employee assistance program, short-time and long-term disability insurance, life insurance, 403b, two weeks of vacation time, and additional paid time off.
