DESCRIPTION

The Westside Theatre, a commercial Off-Broadway Theatre, seeks applicants for a position as Assistant House Manager for a production currently running in our Upstairs Theatre. The Westside Theatre is operating as a fully vaccinated workplace.

The Assistant House Manager will strive to ensure that patrons and guests have a safe, relaxed, and pleasant experience at each performance. As the position is public-facing, strong customer service and communication skills are required. The Assistant House Manager reports directly to the House Manager, and works closely with WST administration, box office staff, production staff, and ushers. Schedule includes evenings, weekends, and some holidays. This is a full time position.

Responsibilities include:
- Assist the House Manager to safely and efficiently manage the entrance and exit of patrons from the venue for each performance, keeping constant communication with fellow front of house, box office, and production staff
- Supervise patrons during performances, directing the public and staff members as necessary to maintain smooth front of house operations
- Respond to audience questions and concerns, troubleshooting and resolving customer service issues with patrons while enforcing house rules
- Effectively communicate ADA accessibility information for both theatres, providing accommodations where possible
Scan tickets and manage theatre admittance
- Work with Shubert Ticketing to operate and maintain ticket scanning system, troubleshooting devices as necessary
- Assist House Manager in keeping accurate and detailed reports for each performance, making note of audience attendance numbers, maintenance requests, patron incidents or complaints, lost and found items, and theatre temperatures
- Assist patrons during any incidents, when necessary, keeping detailed records of any health or emergency incidents for insurance reporting
- Operate basic functions of HVAC system, managing temperatures throughout the building
- Assist the Fire Guard on duty with the safe egress of patrons in the event of an emergency
- Assist House Manager in the upkeep and safety of the physical space, including but not limited to restocking supplies, light housekeeping, and keeping public spaces lit and clean
- Facilitate theatre access for special events, post-show talkbacks, or approved filming in conjunction with performances
Manage external events, readings, and workshops as needed, following the responsibilities outlined above
- Other duties as assigned by Operations Manager or General Manager

Applicants must be self-motivated, calm under pressure, excellent at customer service and communication, detail-oriented, and collaborative. Obtaining or possessing a FDNY F-03 Certificate of Fitness is required upon hire. The position requires the ability to stay on your feet for extended periods of time. Previous Front of House or theatrical experience preferred.

Position is full time plus benefits, including paid time off and health insurance, and is salaried (32 hours) at a rate of $18.75/hour, with the opportunity for additional hours. Immediate availability is preferred.
