The Startup is an original contemporary musical exploring ambition, innovation, and human connection in the age of technology. We are assembling a collaborative, high-caliber creative/production team passionate about bringing new work to life. After a series of successful staged readings, the show is getting on its feet for a workshop production in Spring 2026.

Reporting to our Lead Producer, the Public Relations Manager will drive press coverage, storytelling, and media relations for The Startup. They will cultivate relationships with theatre, arts, and tech-culture outlets to amplify the workshop’s visibility and mission.

Duties include:

- Drafting and distributing press releases and media kits
- Coordinating interviews and press attendance at performances
- Managing communications calendar and talking points
- Working closely with the Producing team and Marketing team to ensure consistent tone and timing

Preferred Qualifications:

- PR experience within theatre, film, or live events
- Existing press relationships within the theatre and tech industries preferred
- Excellent writing, pitching, and interpersonal communication skills
- Strong ability for storytelling and advocacy
- Ability to thrive in an independent, collaborative production setting

This is an excellent opportunity for an emerging PR manager willing to learn and gain experience working on a new musical in development. The production schedule will be Feb 28-Apr 19, 2026, though we will get started on strategy sooner than that.

December 2025-February 2026: Initial meetings, strategy, development

February 28-March 21, 2026: Rehearsals (the PR Manager is invited to attend a couple of rehearsals as needed for PR purposes. Rehearsals will be in the evening).
March 23-27: Load in week.
March 28-29: TECH
March 31: Dress rehearsal
April 1-4: Preview performances
April 8-19: Run of show

Because this is a workshop production, we are working with a very tight budget and can offer a stipend of $300 for this role. Working hours are quite flexible, primarily remote, and we are happy to accommodate your schedule and other commitments/projects. The performances will take place at The Flea Theater, 20 Thomas St, New York, NY.
