Strongbox Theater is seeking a creative and highly organized Props & Costume Designer for our Annual Short Play Festival in June 2026. The festival features multiple short plays produced at our newly opened venue in East Rockaway, NY. The ideal candidate is a recent college graduate looking to break into the business.

This role will oversee the sourcing, tracking, and maintenance of props and costume elements across several short productions.

Responsibilities:

• Work with directors and stage manager to identify prop and costume needs for each play
• Source, pull, purchase, or build props/costumes within budget
• Coordinate costume pulls, fittings, and alterations as needed
• Maintain organized prop tracking and preset lists
• Oversee backstage prop tables and costume organization during tech and performances
• Ensure quick changes and transitions run smoothly
• Track and manage budget and receipts

Qualifications:

• Previous props and/or costume experience required (festival or multi-show experience preferred)
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to work within a modest budget
• Comfortable handling multiple productions simultaneously
• Collaborative and adaptable in a fast-paced environment

Schedule:

• Prep period: Rehearsals begin May 5, 2026 (First Read-through)
• Rehearsals as needed for fittings
• Tech week: June 1, 2026, through June 5, 2026
• Dress Rehearsals: June 6, 2026, and June 7, 2026
• Performances:
  • 6/10/26 – friends and family preview
  • 6/11/26 – vendor preview
  • 6/12/26 – opening night
  • 6/13/26
  • 6/14/26
  • 6/19/26
  • 6/20/26
  • 6/21/26
  • 6/26/26
  • 6/27/26
  • 6/28/26 – closing night/strike
• Evenings and weekends required during tech and run
