Job Title: Stage Manager
Production: Beetlejuice Jr. – Yorktown Stage Juniors
Overview:
Yorktown Stage is seeking a dedicated and organized Stage Manager for our upcoming production of Beetlejuice Jr. This is a fast-paced, rewarding opportunity to work with a talented group of young performers (ages 12–16) in a supportive and creative environment.
Production Timeline:
- Rehearsals: April 11 – May 14
- Performances: May 15 & May 16
Rehearsal Schedule:
All rehearsals/performances are held at the theatre:
Yorktown Stage, 1974 Commerce St. Yorktown Heights, NY 10598
- Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays: 6:15 PM – 8:45 PM
- Saturdays: 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM
Responsibilities:
- Attend all rehearsals and performances
- Maintain rehearsal reports and production notes
- Work closely with the director and creative team to ensure smooth rehearsals
- Call cues and manage backstage operations during performances
- Act as liaison between production and administration
- Help maintain a positive, structured environment for young performers
- Arrive 15-20 minutes prior to each rehearsal to ready the space
- Create a prompt book (your master script with all notes)
- Set up rehearsal schedule alongside director
- Understand tech needs (lights, sound, set, props)
- Take attendance
- Keep rehearsals running on time
- Help maintain focus and structure in the room
- Record blocking (where actors move on stage)
- Track line notes, scene changes, and adjustments
- Remind actors of staging when needed
- Relay information between creative team members
- Help manage energy and behavior (keeping things productive but positive)
- Be a consistent, calm authority figure
- Ensure a safe and inclusive environment
- Learn all lighting, sound, and scene change cues
- Call cues during tech and performances
- Organize scene changes and backstage traffic
- Assign crew roles (often students)
- Ensure props and costumes are preset and tracked
- Quickly handle mistakes, missed cues, or confusion
- Remain for and help coordinate strike post production
Qualifications:
- Prior stage management experience preferred (especially in youth or educational theatre)
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to multitask and stay calm under pressure
- Enthusiasm for working with students ages 12–16
- Must provide own transportation to and from the theatre
Compensation:
- $200-250 per week based on experience
