Position Overview

The Head Pyrotechnician / Deck Carpenter serves as an essential member of the running crew, entrusted with the secure execution of all pyrotechnic effects and technical deck operations. This position mandates a proficient integration of high-stakes pyrotechnic oversight, the operation of automated scenery, and prompt execution of prop and scenic transitions within a demanding theatrical environment.

Reports to: Stage Management, Production Management, and Company Management

Primary Responsibilities

· Candidate needs to hold a valid Certificate of Fitness (E02, E19 required) issued by the FDNY for the deployment and storage of pyrotechnics.

· Conduct pre-performance inspections, preparation, and loading of all effects prior to each showing.

· Select, arm, and initiate cues for all effects while diligently monitoring system continuity.

· Execute pre-show system tests for all automated scenery and effects.

· Aid the Electrics department with overhead work.

· Perform live scenic transitions, including the manipulation of scenic elements, operation of the main curtain, and rapid striking of heavy furniture and scenic elements.

· Assist with post-performance duties, including the vacuuming and sweeping of the deck, and mopping following fight calls.

Administrative and Professional Expectations:

· Acceptance of sole responsibility for arranging approved substitute coverage for any and all absences.

· Strict adherence to all production protocols regarding Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), anti-harassment policies, and COVID-19 safety measures

Weekly Compensation:

A salary of $1,648.00 per week, predicated on a standard 40-hour work week or 8 performances. Hours worked in excess of 40 per week shall be compensated at a rate of 1.5 times the established hourly rate.

Additional Benefits:

· $65.00 weekly stipend allocated for specific Friday/Saturday to Saturday/Sunday turnarounds.

Start Date:

Training to begin immediately with anticipate start date of full position January 28, 2026.
