MEAN GIRLS

SEEKING:

Cady – Female identifying, Vocal range G3–Gb5, Age 17- 25

New junior at North Shore High, grew up in Africa and was homeschooled by her wildlife biologist parents. Cady is incredibly open and curious about “real school”, but this openness leads to a lack of discernment about her new peers and a blurry moral compass. Hungry for new experiences, connection, and to fit in, she’s quick to be convinced to cross the line by those around her. Incredibly intelligent, grounded, earthy, authentic, socially awkward and clumsy in social settings but in an endearing. Even when she loses herself with the Plastics, glimmers of this side of her still shine through.

Regina George – Female identifying, Vocal range F#3–Gb5 Age 17 – 25

Queen Bee of the Plastics. Regina barely has to lift a finger to have the entire school wrapped around hers. A sort of effortless intimidation, simultaneously magnetic, alluring, and terrifying. She knows that she’s powerful and loves it. Deeply buried underneath this powerful persona lies an insecure teen, but she would never let anyone see it. Girly but not an airhead; incredibly calculated and clear. Knows when to charm and when to scorch. People hang on her every word but she can take you down with just a glance. Seemingly untouchable until her carefully crafted reputation becomes threatened. Not a caricature of a popular girl… she’s a one of a kind. Dynamic singing voice with a powerful belt.

Janis – Female identifying, Vocal range Ab3–F5 Age 17 – 25

Janis is unapologetic, bold, and an outcast, not by choice but because of a bullying incident with Regina in 8th grade. She’s embraced being outside the system and uses her past as motivation to try and get revenge on Regina by using Cady. Strong-willed, edgy appearance, artistic, not confined to social or gender norms, willing to speak up, and impressively self-assured for someone still in high school. Not afraid to be controversial in her art or actions. Values integrity over social gain, fiercely loyal, deeply cares for her friends. An anchor of the story as one of the narrators. Strong rock belt.

Damian – Male identifying, Vocal range F2–A4 Age 17 – 25

Outgoing, active member of the Student Activities Committee, with a strong pulse on the high school social scene. Damian is outgoing, lively, and charismatic; funny in a very effortless, quick-witted way. Not afraid to be vocal and call out Cady when she’s making bad choices about boys and school politics. Reliable, close friend of Janis, occasionally serving as a narrator alongside her.

Gretchen – Female identifying, Vocal range G3–D5 Age 17 – 25

One of the Plastics, Regina’s second in command. Gretchen is incredibly anxious and eager to do anything to please Regina, who she has put on a pedestal. So focused on taking Regina’s insults as feedback that she loses herself and isn’t quite sure who she really is without a leader’s direction. Any threat to their friendship makes her feel incredibly fragile and small. Takes her role in the Plastics seriously and cares about not upsetting those she idolizes. Over-thinker, girly girl, tender and afraid when alone, wanting approval like a little child.

Karen – Female identifying, Vocal range G3–Gb5 Age 17 – 25

One of the Plastics. Karen has always relied on her beauty and hasn’t had much need to develop intellect or personality, but upbeat nonetheless. Often in her own world. Goes along with the Plastics with a very “yes, and” attitude. Admits she’s not smart but often sees the other girls more clearly than most people. Considerably laid-back and sweet by comparison to the other Plastics.

Aaron – Male identifying, Vocal range B2–Bb4 Age 17 – 25

Charming guy with a good moral compass and backbone. Aaron is not immune to attention of the girls in his high school, but won’t be a pawn in anyone’s drama.

Mrs. George/Ms. Norbury/Mrs. Heron – Female identifying, Vocal range G3–Eb5 Age 30 - 40

Mrs. Heron is Cady’s intellectual mom who can’t understand why her daughter is changing. Ms. Norbury is Cady’s world-weary Calculus teacher who pushes her to be her smartest self. Mrs. George is Regina’s “cool mom”, desperate to feel young and close to Regina. Great singer, distinctly defines three characters.

Mr. Duvall – Male identifying Age 30 - 40

Principal of North Shore High, may have once taught computers at Joliet penitentiary, but unprepared for the chaos of junior girls. Funny and strong singer.

Kevin G. – Male identifying Age 17 – 25

Extremely driven captain of the North Shore Mathletes, confident student, decent rapper in his own nerdy way.
