DESCRIPTION

Ancram Center for the Arts seeks a highly collaborative, well-organized, and detail-oriented individual to serve as its first General Manager. This is a hybrid work opportunity, ideal for someone looking to make a meaningful contribution to the operations and community impact of a small, thriving performing arts organization serving the Hudson Valley, Berkshires, and Northwest Connecticut. Responsibilities span administrative and production areas and include:


  • Run weekly staff meeting and facilitate communication across all departments

  • Produce and maintain season calendar, contact sheets and daily schedules in collaboration with production manager/season producer

  • Banking, check writing, and processing account payables and receivables

  • Manage unemployment claims, workers compensation and insurance matters

  • Collect W9s and file 1099s for independent contractors

  • Manage payroll for salaried employees and payment to independent contractors

  • Process contracts (Actors’ Equity, United Scenic Artists, Stage Directors) and letters of agreements

  • Facilitate travel arrangements and housing coordination for visiting artists and staff

  • Recruit additional staff, interns, and volunteers serving various departments

  • Supervise interns and additional staff serving in an administrative capacity, including front of house/ box office personnel

  • Execute rental agreements that Ancram Center may need during the season for additional equipment or space, or with other service providers or vendors

  • Coordinate maintenance of facilities with service providers

  • Provide coordination support for fundraising events and attend event planning meetings

  • Respond to general inquiries and support other organizational functions as time permits


Experience with Excel, Google Apps (Sheets, Docs, Drive), Quickbooks Online, and CRM platforms (familiarity with Neon CRM is a plus) is needed along with an appreciation for the role the arts can play in fostering mutual understanding, connection, and a sense of community.

The salaried (25-30 hours/week) position is expected to begin by April 1. As a hybrid position, there is some flexibility as to where and when the work is performed. It is expected that the general manager shall attend and run the weekly staff meeting and set a standing schedule for their work on-site. Annual compensation is $32,000 with generous PTO, especially during the off-season.


Ancram Center for the Arts, entering its 11th season, produces three mainstage theater productions, artist residencies, music, storytelling and community programs from April to November each year. It operates out of an historic performance hall, seating 70, and a newly opened Annex providing meeting space and artist housing. For more information about our activities, go to ancramcenter.org.
