Houston Broadway Theatre is seeking an experienced General Manager to oversee the 2026 summer season, consisting of two union productions in Houston, TX. This role is primarily remote during pre-production, with some required in-person availability in Houston for the start of rehearsals and throughout tech, previews, and opening for each production. A single advance site visit may also be required.
This position requires a senior-level GM with strong union, financial, and production leadership experience who can represent the organization with authority and autonomy.
Houston Broadway Theatre is a not-for-profit theatre company based in Houston, TX. It produces 1-2 musicals yearly in the summer in Houston, TX.
• Draft, manage, and maintain production budgets.
• Collaborate closely with the Producer to ensure all financial goals, timelines, and reporting requirements are met.
• Lead reconciliation processes with accountants and oversee financial reporting and production finances.
• Manage payroll, reimbursements, contractor payments, and production expenses.
• Build and oversee ticketing structures and pricing strategies in coordination with the Producer.
• Liaise directly with venue box offices to implement ticketing plans, resolve issues, and align on sales operations.
• Lead negotiations with all applicable unions for production contracts.
• Read, interpret, and ensure compliance with union agreements throughout the rehearsal, performance, and closing periods.
• Serve as the primary liaison with union representatives, addressing issues proactively and diplomatically.
• Draft, review, and negotiate contracts for artists, staff, designers, and vendors.
• Source and secure remaining production and design staff as needed.
• Coordinate across all departments—including production, creative, finance, marketing, and venue operations—to ensure smooth and efficient production operations.
• Serve as the lead representative and face of the production on behalf of the Producer and organization.
• Attend and lead production meetings during tech and previews.
• Problem-solve on the ground during in-person periods, particularly during tech, previews, and opening.
• When working remotely, liaise closely with the Company Manager and/or Associate GM on site to maintain continuity and oversight.
• Prior experience as General Manager on a Broadway production, Equity National Tour, or multiple high-level regional union productions.
• Direct experience leading negotiations and working across major theatrical unions, including: AEA, IATSE, TWU, AFM, USA, SDC
• Demonstrated ability to manage complex budgets, lead multi-departmental teams, and operate independently in union environments.
