The First Hand plays a crucial role in the construction and preparation of costumes and is an integral member of the Costume Shop team. They will ensure garments are built to specification and fit properly, while respecting production timelines.
This position offers employer-provided housing and parking. Housing includes a private bedroom and shared living space. Residency starts in early June and ends mid-to-late August.
About Your Work Day
Assist the Draper in translating costume designs into patterns
Oversee Stitchers, providing instructions on garment assembly and maintain quality control.
Assemble portions of garments that require advanced sewing skills and/or hand finishing
Attend costume fittings and assist with necessary alterations.
Work with the costume shop supervisor and draper to procure materials, etc
Work collaboratively with the design team to realize the artistic vision
Provide input on garment construction and material choices based on technical knowledge.
Keep workspaces organized and ensure all tools and materials are well-maintained.
Step in to assist other team members during busy periods or tight deadlines.
Provide guidance to less experienced team members, fostering skill development within the shop
