DESCRIPTION

Hudson Classical Theater Company is embarking on its 23rd season in Riverside Park. We are an outdoor theater company known for our intimate and accessible interpretations of classical literature. We are looking for a Costume Designer for our May/June show “Uncle Vanya” by Anton Chekhov and June/July show “Hamlet” by Wm. Shakespeare.

Uncle Vanya:

Time Commitment: April 30 – May 29– various dates for costume fittings, pulling costumes, and bringing costumes to the space pre-dress rehearsal and dress tech. Must be available preview & opening night.

Hamlet:

Time Commitment: May 25 – June 26 – various dates for costume fittings, pulling costumes, and bringing costumes to the space pre-dress rehearsal and dress tech. Must be available preview and opening night. Assistant Stage Managers wanted for our Outdoor, Summer season: Shows are: Uncle Vanya (May/June), Hamlet (June/July), and The Dancing Men: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery (July/Aug). Stage Managers needed for Dress Tech and 4 weeks of performances. `

Uncle Vanya: May 23 – June 21

Hamlet: June 20 – July 19

Dress Tech Rehearsals before preview night are Sat/Sun 12pm – 5pm, Monday DARK, Tues & Wed 4:30pm – 9:30pm

Performances are Thurs-Sun at 6:30pm. 16 performances per show (excluding rain cancellations).

Stipend: $800.00

Duties:

· Provide a design within budget and time constraints.

· Attend Productions Meetings either in person or via Zoom.

· Collaborate with the Director on all pre-production concepts.

· Work with given in-house costume collection as well as work with Director & Production Team on appropriate avenues of achieving additional resources.

· Create comprehensive schedule and responsibility of required work (Pulling from Stock, Renting, Purchasing, and Building, etc.)

· Must be able to sew and available to make alterations.

· The Designer, with the Costume Assistant, will bring costumes to rehearsals to fit the actors, thus giving the Designer and Costume Assistant time to make adjustments/alterations as needed.

· The Costume Designer will be present during Dress Tech and Preview Night to help the actors learn how to wear their costumes and help with any last minute adjustments to the costumes. Be present at Opening night.

· After the show closes, The Costume Designer, with the Costume Assistant, will help the return any costumes to the rental company.

· Familiarity with TDF Costume Rental shop a plus.

· Ability to adapt to a varied schedule.
