JOB TITLE: Director of Operations

REPORTS TO: Chief Financial Officer

FLSA STATUS: Full-Time, Exempt

COMPENSATION RATE: $75,000 – 85,000 annually

LOCATION: 170 N. Dearborn St., Chicago, IL 60601

POSITION SUMMARY: The Director of Operations is responsible for providing strategic oversight of venue operations, facilities and custodial management of the Goodman Theatre complex (170 N Dearborn), Theater of the Mind (333 W LaSalle), Magic Parlour (60 W Randolph) and Scene Shop (363 W Pershing), ensuring the safety and comfort of all staff, artists and patrons. This role will provide leadership on strategic and capital planning while working closely with all departments to ensure seamless operations. The position directly manages the Facilities and Custodial Manager and indirectly manages a team of 8 more facilities and custodial employees. This is a full-time/salaried position with occasional night, and weekend shifts required.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead and oversee the facilities and custodial departments to ensure proper maintenance, cleanliness, and repair of all facilities

  • In conjunction with the Chief Financial Officer, develop and maintain annual budgets for all locations, including utilities, service contracts, maintenance (repairs/replacements), equipment/supplies, and custodial support

  • Develop and execute annual capital plan/budget and long-term/master capital plan/budget for all facilities including vendor selection, RFP process and project management

  • Oversee and ensure adherence to the preventative maintenance program

  • Implement and administer the Computerized Maintenance Management Software

  • Review and negotiate service contracts with vendors and service-providers, including HVAC, chillers, plumbing, elevators, life safety systems, etc.

  • Maintain required licenses and permits and ensure compliance with all building codes and life-safety systems

  • Work to implement a strategic sustainability plan: track and conserve energy use, lower utility costs, monitor and report on practices, reduce carbon footprint, and promote social responsibility

  • Recommend and/or formulate internal policies, guidelines and procedures pertaining to the building environment, quality control, safety and security.

  • Responsible for the buildings’ security control (alarms) and access control (fobs/keys/etc.)

  • Coordinate with Front of House and Guest Services departments to support superior patron experience and lobby operations

  • Ensure all ADA regulations are followed and work with Guest Services Manager and Front of House staff to execute accessibility program

  • Work closely with all other departments as needed and provide necessary services to all employees

  • Serve as a first responder for building emergencies; on call 24/7

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • 6- 8 years of demonstrated experience in the management of commercial building maintenance, operations, and projects. Theatre or live entertainment venue preferred.

  • At least 4 years of experience in team management; ability to supervise, lead, motivate and mentor personnel.

  • Industry-specific knowledge and experience of best practices including reliability centered maintenance, safety standards, energy management practices, and other cost-effective practices

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Proven critical thinking, problem solving and organizational skills

  • Industry certifications and licenses (SMT, SMA, BOC, CFC); OSHA safety training preferred

  • MS Office, BAS, CMMS software, and ArtsVision building schedule technology experience preferred

  • Capable of performing physical labor, maneuvering 60 lbs. or more, negotiating ladders, working from heights of up to 30 feet, and working from unusual angles to fix equipment

  • Ability to foster and maintain good working relationships with key stakeholders

  • Agreeable to a flexible/variable work schedule, including occasional evenings, weekends and some on call rotations.

  • Collaborative, cooperative, and proven leader in customer service
