DESCRIPTION

Check Room Attendants are responsible for greeting and welcoming patrons and guests in a warmly and friendly manner while accommodating their checked item needs. Check Room Attendants also distribute infrared headsets, seat cushions, binoculars, and sensory items at various locations throughout the house.
This role is a part-time position and is scheduled on an as needed basis, based on the performance and event schedule. Hours vary weekly and include daytime, evening, weekend, and holiday shifts.

Primary Responsibilities

    • Greet all guests attending events at the Metropolitan Opera in a warm, welcoming manner and provide directions to appropriate locations for guests attending other events at the Lincoln Center campus.
    • Hang coat, bag or any other guest items neatly with appropriate numbered hanger.
    • Quick-paced multitasking: making change, distributing infrared headsets, seat cushions, binoculars, and sensory items for a large volume of guests.
    • Verify patron cards to confirm eligibility for Patron Coat Check.
    • Move coat racks to assigned area as well as transfer and carry coats and items to different locations as needed.
    • Ensure all checked items remain safe and in good condition.
    • Ensure each patron receives the proper items at the end of a performance or event.
    • Provide accurate event information, including directions within and outside of the Opera House.
    • Notify supervisory staff and/or security staff of any emergency situations immediately as they occur.
    • Direct guests to appropriate personnel to resolve guest issues.
    • Navigate scheduling software to retrieve shift information, record work hours and receive/share relevant performance information.
    • Exemplify guest excellence characteristics in all interactions with all guests and co-workers.

Skills and Qualifications

    • Proven customer service experience that meets the expected standards of the Metropolitan Opera House.
    • Very adaptable and willing to quickly learn and implement new front of house procedures and technology..
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Ability to multi-task, adapt, and problem solve in a fast-paced environment.
    • Ability to stand for varying periods of time.
    • Bilingual is a plus, but not required.
    • Basic knowledge of opera helpful but not required.
    • Pleasant personable demeanor and a strong desire to assist a diverse pool of visitors.

Physical Demands

    • Ability to climb steps repeatedly.
    • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
    • Ability to hold and carry up to 15lbs.
    • Ability to bend, stretch, reach and kneel without restriction.
    • Work in a fast-paced, busy environment with environmental conditions such as noise, heights, dark/dim/absence of lighting.
    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Highly Encouraged Certifications

    • Certificate of Fitness for Indoor Place of Assembly Safety Personnel (F-03)
$18.50 - $18.50 an hour
