Rachel Saruski
Casting all genders for a workshop reading of a new play, Mitzvah by Rachel Saruski, directed by Is Perlman. Rehearsals will be March 8th-19th in NYC, with the reading on March 20th at The Bechdel Project.
Casting Breakdown:
OLIVIA (Queer Jew of Color, can play around 20s)- Somewhat newly queer. Raised in Reform Judaism. Quirky, an open book.
YAEL (Queer Jew of Color, can play around 20s)- VERY queer. Raised in Orthodox Judaism. Outgoing, but not very vulnerable.
Summary: Olivia and Yael meet in an adult bat mitzvah class taught by a well-meaning, middle-aged gay Rabbi Elliott. As a begrudging bond forms between them and Yael lets Olivia into her world, Olivia battles her own morals, arguments, and even some weird biblical dreams, to begin to learn what the intersectionality of Judaism and Queerness truly means to her.
