SEEKING: Assistant Stage Manager (Non-Union)

Overview

The Thorn is seeking a talented assistant stage manager to assist the stage manager on tour in 3 major area: during load ins, the live performance, and load outs. They will primarily help track blocking, spike the stage, and manage the backstage during shows.

The rehearsal period will be short, as much of the cast is returning, so a successful applicant will be a quick thinker and learner, problem solver, positive, creative, energetic, and reliable. Touring experience appreciated but not required.

Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will be a strong leader, capable of handling high stress situations and adapting under pressure while staying positive. We have a diverse team of many different disciplines; learning how to lead and interact with all the performers is core the job. Experience with big casts appreciated. The candidate will be interacting with and leading new groups of local union stagehands at each venue

During the REHEARSAL PERIOD the Assistant Stage Manager will be responsible for:

—Assisting the SM in pre-production duties, notably maintaining and updating blocking to have readily available for questions.
—Learning their backstage track and understanding the backstage flow of props and set pieces and stagehands.

During the PERFORMACE PERIOD of the tour, they will be responsible for managing stagehands, ensuring a smooth run during the shows and assisting the SM in loading in and out of venues.

—Assist during load in, including but not limited to: Assisting in the moving of soft goods, setting up stage decks, moving road cases, props, and set pieces to their correct locations, assist in leading teams of union hands, spiking the stage, and prepping the stage for show.
—During show, run the backstage and their track smoothly, maintaining a safe environment for performers and stagehands alike. The ASM may assist with lighting and extinguishing flame effects. There will preset designated props and set pieces before and during the show. The ASM is the primary communication conduit between the stage and the SM and production team in the FOH booth
—Assist during load out, including but not limited to: Leading teams of union hands to break down the stage decks, take down soft goods, pack up road cases, and assist the SM as needed.

The ASM will assist in running any rehearsals as needed, if designated by the SM or director.

Contract
$700-$850/week
All Transportation and Housing provided while on tour.
Per diems provided for all non-catered meals
