Location: Jersey City, NJ (in person)
Salary: $65,000-$70,000

Position Summary

Art House Productions is seeking an organized, efficient, and results-oriented Technical Theater Manager to join the Art House team. This role will supervise and execute all technical, facility, and operational needs for all programs, performances, events, and rentals in our spaces. The role oversees and communicates all venue and audiovisual needs, including basic programming of all theater equipment, building maintenance, and scheduling and technical needs of all events in the theater and throughout the spaces. The role reports to the Executive Artistic Director and collaborates with staff across departments to support the organization’s mission and operational success, with consistent communication across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Management
    • Oversees and coordinates the programming and operations of lighting, sound, projection, video, and other equipment and assets, as required for individual performances.
    • Communicates regularly with all artists, renters, and producers bringing their performances, events, and programs into our space, to properly prepare all technical and production needs.
    • Oversees the theater and venue setup for all events and performances
    • Hires, trains, and supervises freelance technical personnel, and ensures proper support staff is assigned to all performances and events.
    • Oversees load-in and load-out of all performances and events.
    • Maintains a knowledge of state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and/or systems.
    • Creates and manages effective systems and procedures for planning, communicating, and executive of technical needs for all events and programs in our spaces.
  • Facilities Management
    • Serves as Building Supervisor after normal hours of operation, or during assigned programs and events
    • Maintains inventories of relevant materials and equipment throughout entire space; identifies and assesses inventory requirements, and makes and/or recommends purchases and maintenance as appropriate.
    • Serves as the primary point of contact for all facilities vendors in coordination with the rest of the building (HVAC, Electrical, Security, Internet, etc.).
    • Ensures cleanliness and organization of all equipment, resources, and tools.
    • Manages incoming and outgoing mail.
  • Rentals Management
    • Fields all rental inquiries and serves as primary contact for all event rental communications.
    • Manages and organizes all needs to successfully execute rental events from inquiry to load out.
    • Coordinates venue calendar in collaboration with Producing Director, Executive Artistic Director, and Gallery Director
    • Executes Letters of Agreement and ensures proper payment on all Rentals.
  • Performs additional job-related duties as assigned (e.g., management of technical needs for off-site events, develops promotional plans for our rental bookings, etc.)

Qualifications and Skills

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in theatrical technical role(s)
  • Knowledge and understanding of lighting, sound, and projection equipment and programming; theatrical equipment; design tools and software.
  • Familiarity with with ADA and OSHA compliance
  • Heavy-lifting abilities (upwards of 50 lbs)
  • Organized, detail-oriented, deadline-driven, and able to prioritize and manage multiple projects.
  • Excellent communication skills — written, verbal, and interpersonal.
  • Collaborative team player with a positive, flexible attitude.
  • Availability to oversee and run events — evenings and weekends required.
  • Passion for the arts and commitment to Art House’s mission.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • $65,000-$70,000 commensurate with experience
