DESCRIPTION
Actionplay, a disability-inclusive theatre nonprofit, is looking for an Assistant Music Director for our community choir, the Actionplay Voices Choir. Composed of amateur and professional neurodivergent and disabled singers, The Actionplay Voices Choir performs the pop hits of the past and present with harmony and gusto.
The ideal candidate is comfortable providing support to neurodivergent and disabled singers with various accessibility needs, and is adept at providing musical accompaniment, assisting with rehearsal management, and retrieving rehearsal materials.
The Assistant Music Director will report to Jackson Tucker-Meyer, Interim Executive Director, and Shane Dittmar, Music Director.
Rehearsals for the Spring season will run on Sunday afternoons from 2-4pm, starting March 15th, culminating in a concert on Saturday, June 20th. Rehearsals and concert will take place in Manhattan. Full rehearsal schedule is at bottom.
Pay rate is $100 per weekly rehearsal & performance, for a total of $1,300 for this season. This is a position with possibility of renewal for future concert seasons.
Responsibilities include:
Providing piano accompaniment for rehearsals and performance
Rehearsal management skills; able to redirect and deescalate conflict while keeping rehearsal moving
Retrieving, sorting, and passing out sheet music printouts from printer services as needed
Preferred qualifications:
Experience accompanying or participating in community choir programs
Experience teaching music and/or providing vocal instruction to non-professional singers
Experience working with autistic / neurodivergent / disabled teens and adults
