Rubicon Theatre Company seeks a detail-oriented and mission-driven Accountant to oversee daily financial operations and ensure compliance with GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, union requirements, and regulatory obligations.
This role manages multi-fund accounting, payroll across multiple classifications (including union), monthly reporting, audit preparation, and regulatory filings. The Accountant works closely with executive leadership and the Board Treasurer to ensure fiscal clarity and responsible growth.
The retiring Accountant will provide training and transition support, including up to 10 hours per week of consulting support during the first year, ensuring continuity and knowledge transfer.
· Manage A/P, A/R, deposits, journal entries, and bank reconciliations
· Record and track all revenue across funds
· Maintain prepaid expenses, deferred revenue, payroll cash accounts, A/R and A/P
· Maintain and update chart of accounts
· Execute payroll for salaried staff, hourly employees, seasonal crew, union employees, and contractors
· Prepare and submit union benefit payments, pension and health contributions
· Calculate and remit union dues and agent fees
· Manage time tracking systems and verify hours
· Calculate and record monthly vacation accruals
· Prepare monthly financial statements and board reports
· Generate custom reports for leadership as requested
· Reconcile concession sales, petty cash, and inventory
· Calculate and submit monthly workers’ compensation reports
· Coordinate with outside CPA and auditors for annual audit
· Prepare required audit schedules and documentation
· Oversee annual 1099 reporting
· Prepare and submit required business licenses and regulatory filings
· Coordinate workers’ compensation audits
· Review and manage insurance policies and renewals
· Manage insurance claims
· Serve as financial liaison with vendors
· Maintain internal controls and financial procedures
· Maintain inventory of equipment and service contracts
· Serve as Human Resources Liaison for payroll-related compliance matters
· Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field
· 3–5 years progressive accounting experience
· Nonprofit multi-fund accounting experience required
· Knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit IRS regulations
· Experience supporting financial audits
· Strong QuickBooks and Excel proficiency
· Strong organizational and communication skills
· Ability to work independently and collaboratively
· Salary range: $70,304–$82,000 DOE
