The world premiere of Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith’s Inside No. 9 Stage/Fright begins performances January 16 at London's Wyndham's Theatre, with Simon Evans directing. The limited engagement continues through April 5.
Pemberton and Shearsmith lead the cast, which also includes Rebecca Bainbridge, Mark Extance, Anna Francolini, Gaby French, Miranda Hennessy, Bhav Joshi, Toby Manley, and Christina Tedders.
Inside No. 9 Stage/Fright is based on Pemberton and Shearsmith's TV comedy Inside No. 9. The newly written stage piece features some familiar characters for fans of the program, along with brand-new material.
“We’ve been asked about doing a live show ever since the series first started on the BBC, probably because each episode is like a mini-play," Pemberton and Shearsmith said in a joint statement. "There are small casts and single locations, and we were definitely inspired by our work in theatre when writing the stories for TV. There will be plenty of new material and surprises for fans and new-comers alike. There’ll be something old, something new, something butchered and something… BOO! We have created IN9 Theatre Company with the intention that there could be more stage adaptations in the future.”
Joining Evans on the creative team are set designer Grace Smart, costume designer Yves Barre, lighting designer Neil Austin, sound designer Ed Lewis, and illusionist John Bulleid. The production also features video and projections by Duncan McLean.
