It has already been seen by eight million people in London alone, and is already the eighth longest-running show currently playing in the West End. On November 12, it will become the 18th longest-running show in West End theatre history, after overtaking the original production of Miss Saigon at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane.
In celebration of the musical’s 10th birthday, and as part of the ongoing restoration of the theatre, theatre owner ATG has invested in the complete refurbishment of the auditorium and Front of House areas of the Apollo Victoria Theatre. All seats and carpets have been replaced, with new seat stanchions formed from cast iron, and designs replicated from the original design of the “expressionist moderne” venue that first opened its doors, as the New Victoria Cinema, in 1930.
Public facilities have also been updated for a 21st century audience, with women's toilet capacity doubled in the stalls, and brand-new bars installed as well.
Wicked currently stars Rachel Tucker (Elphaba), Suzie Mathers (Glinda), Oliver Savile (Fiyero), Anita Dobson (Madame Morrible), Mark Curry (The Wizard), Martin Ball (Doctor Dillamond), Katie Rowley Jones (Nessarose), Idriss Kargbo (Boq), Alice Fearn (Standby for Elphaba) and Carina Gillespie (Standby for Glinda).
It has also now been announced that the recent record-breaking U.K. and Ireland tour that ran September 2013-July 2015 will return February 2018, beginning a ten-city tour at Bristol Hippodrome. Further cities are still to be announced.
