What's It All About? Bacharach Reimagined to Receive U.K Premiere at London's Menier Chocolate Factory | Playbill

News What's It All About? Bacharach Reimagined to Receive U.K Premiere at London's Menier Chocolate Factory What's It All About? Bacharach Reimagined, which originally premiered at Off-Broadway's New York Theatre Workshop in 2013, is to receive its U.K premiere at London's Menier Chocolate Factory, beginning performances July 3 prior to an official opening July 15, for a run through Sept. 5.

In the show, Bacharach's celebrated songbook is given an all-new interpretation with Kyle Riabko's original musical arrangement. Directed by Oliver Award-winner Steven Hoggett, 27-year-old Riabko (who also conceived the show with David Lane Seltzer) leads a group of young performers through over 30 of Bacharach's classic songs, featuring lyrics by Hal David and others, including "Alfie," "Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head," "What the World Needs Now Is Love," "I Say a Little Prayer," "Walk on By," "A House Is Not a Home," "That's What Friends Are For," "Close to You," "(There’s) Always Something There to Remind Me," "The Look of Love," "What’s New Pussycat?," "Do You Know the Way to San Jose?" and others.

Bacharach and David wrote the score to the musical, Promises, Promises.

After being introduced to Bacharach at a Los Angeles recording studio, Riabko created a series of demos, reinterpreting his songs. Over the ensuing months, he took the demos to Bacharach who gave his blessing to What’s It All About? Bacharach Reimagined. After seeing the show, Bacharach said it felt as though he had received "a love letter" and commented, "Kyle has done something truly unique with my music."

Hoggett's West End and Broadway credits include The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time and Once. He has also worked on Broadway on Rocky, American Idiot, Peter and the Starcatcher and The Glass Menagerie. Other U.K theatre credits include The Light Princess, Let the Right One In (also St Ann's Warehouse), Black Watch (also St Anne's Warehouse), and being a founder member of Frantic Assembly, for whom he did a lot of work.

This production is presented by special arrangement with David Lane Seltzer and Management 360.
