In its 21st annual Out 100 issue, featuring photographs by Ryan Pfluger and others, Out Magazine commemorates the year's most influential and inspirational LGBT individuals and their straight allies.
Among those announced from the world of theatre: actress Lily Tomlin (The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe), actor Joel Grey (Wicked, Cabaret), Broadway director-choreographer Jerry Mitchell (Kinky Boots), actress/director Cynthia Nixon (Steve), actress Raven-Symoné (Sister Act), director Bill Condon (Side Show) and the Fun Home Family: Alison Bechdel, Roberta Colindrez, Beth Malone, Joel Perez and Lisa Kron.
U.S. President Barack Obama, who recently spoke at a performance of the Broadway musical Hamilton, was named Straight Ally of the Year and sat for the cover photo. The magazine wrote, "This is the first time a sitting president has been photographed for the cover of an LGBT title, a historic moment in itself, and a statement on how much his administration has done to advance a singularly volatile issue that tarnished the reputations of both President Clinton and President Bush."
