Clare Barron's Obie-winning play You Got Older opened Off-Broadway February 23, and the reviews are rolling in. The show plays the newly reopened Cherry Lane Theatre for an already-extended limited engagement through April 12. Previews began February 12.
Alia Shawkat (Search Party, Blink Twice, Arrested Development) stars as Mae with Tony nominee Peter Friedman (Job) as Dad, Misha Brooks (The Best You Can) as Matthew, Caleb Joshua Eberhardt (Eurydice) as Mac, Paul Cooper as Cowboy, Nadine Malouf (Queens) as Hannah, and Nina White (Kimberly Akimbo) as Jenny.
Understudies include Paul Cooper (Buried Child), Jonah O’Hara-David (UntitledKenUrbanProject), Carl Palmer (Coal Country), and Nicole Rodenburg (Usual Girls).
The play follows Mae (Shawkat), who returns to her Washington hometown to take care of her ailing father after losing her job and her boyfriend. When she unexpectedly meets a mysterious stranger, she has the startling realization that maybe the intimacy she’s been craving is easier with the unknown, rather than with her own family.
