Summer Tony nominee Ariana DeBose, who can currently be seen as Anita in Steven Spielberg's new adaptation of West Side Story, is one of the five actors nominated for the BAFTA's Rising Star Award.

DeBose, who recently garnered a Golden Globe Award for her work in the movie musical, is nominated alongside Harris Dickinson (The King's Man, The Souvenir Part II), Lashana Lynch (No Time to Die, upcoming Matilda film), Millicent Simmonds (Wonderstruck, A Quiet Place Part II) and Kodi Smit-McPhee (The Power of the Dog, The Road). The list of nominees was revealed by 2021 Rising Star Award winner Bukky Bakray.

Broadway favorite DeBose said, “I am beyond humbled to join the talented group of actors that have been nominated for the EE Rising Star Award over the years. To say I’m excited is an understatement, and I’m so thankful to BAFTA and the EE Rising Star Award jury for this recognition. Genuinely blown away.”

Nominees were selected by a panel including BAFTA-winning actor and director Andy Serkis, filmmaker and actor Sadie Frost, and Downton Abbey star Michelle Dockery. The winner will be announced March 13 during the BAFTA Film Awards ceremony on BBC One.

The Rising Star Award, now in its 17th year, is the only category at the BAFTAs voted for by the British public. Voting is now open at ee.co.uk/BAFTA.
