London News West End Return of Sister Act Musical Welcomes Alexandra Burke and Lee Mead June 10

The hit musical based on the film of the same name continues at the Dominion Theatre.

The X Factor winner Alexandra Burke gets into the habit in the West End return of the Olivier-nominated Sister Act The Musical beginning June 10 at the Dominion Theatre.

Burke, seen in the London and touring productions of The Bodyguard, succeeds Beverley Knight, who played her final performance as Deloris Van Cartier June 8. Burke first played Deloris in 2016.

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Wicked, and Legally Blonde star Lee Mead also joins the cast June 10, stepping into the role of Eddie Souther. He succeeds Clive Rowe, who played his final performance June 8.

Continuing in their roles are Ruth Jones as Mother Superior (through August 3), Lemar as Curtis Jackson, Alison Jiear as Sister Mary Patrick, Carl Mullaney as Monsignor O’Hara, Lesley Joseph as Sister Mary Lazarus (Joseph will step into the role of Mother Superior August 5–31), and Lizzie Bea as Sister Mary Robert.

The company is completed by Caroline Bateson, Natalia Brown, Damian Buhagiar, Tricia Deighton, Lori Haley Fox, Lauren Hall, Chloe Hopcroft, Tom Hopcroft, Bradley Judge, Claudia Kariuki, Graham MacDuff, Castell Parker, Emma Ralston, Anne Smith, Michael Ward, and Jermaine Woods.

Bill Buckhurst directs the production, which began previews March 15 and officially opened March 21. The international hit musical also has choreography by Alistair David, set and costume design by Morgan Large, musical direction by Neil MacDonald, lighting design by Tim Mitchell, sound design by Tom Marshall, and musical supervision by Stephen Brooker. Casting is by Stuart Burt.

Based on the film of the same name, Sister Act features music by Tony and Oscar winner Menken, lyrics by Glenn Slater, a book by Bill and Cheri Steinkellner with additional book material by Douglas Carter Beane.

The musical played Broadway's Broadway Theatre March 24, 2011-August 26, 2012, officially opening April 20, 2011. The New York production earned five Tony nominations, including Best Musical.

The musical tells the story of a disco diva whose life takes a surprising turn when she witnesses a murder. Under protective custody, she is hidden in the one place she won’t be found: a convent.
