The cast of Disney's animated musical Encanto, which features original songs by Hamilton's Lin-Manuel Miranda, performed the fan- and chart-favorite song "We Don't Talk About Bruno" at the 94th Annual Academy Awards. The movie won Best Animated Feature Film at the ceremony, naming the writer-director duo Jared Bush and Byron Howard and producers Yvett Merino and Clark Spencer as winners. The musical number included vocals by original cast members Adassa, Stephanie Beatriz, Mauro Castillo, Carolina Gaitan, and Diane Guerrero, as well as surprise contributions by rapper Megan Thee Stallion, "Despacito" singer Luis Fonsi, and singer-actor Becky G.
In addition to performing the Billboard-charting hit, the ceremony welcomed a performance of the Oscar nominated song "Dos Oruguitas" by original singer Sebastián Yatra.
With two of Tony winner Miranda's songs being performed at the Oscars, Encanto wasn't the only Broadway representation viewers witnessed at the ceremony. Tony nominee Ariana DeBose, known for her roles in Hamilton, The Bronx Tale, and Summer: The Donna Summer Musical, took home an award for Best Supporting Actor for her role as Anita in Steven Spielberg's West Side Story.
