CBS Sunday Morning spoke to the stars of War Paint, Patti LuPone and Christine Ebersole, along with book writer Doug Wright, for an in-depth look at the real story behind the the new Broadway musical. War Paint recounts the lives and ongoing feud between rival cosmetics giants Helena Rubinstein and Elizabeth Arden.
Author Lindy Woodhead, whose book War Paint—a dual biography of Rubinstein and Arden—inspired the musical, was also a guest on the program.

Directed by Michael Greif (Rent, Next to Normal, If/Then, Grey Gardens), War Paint reunites Scott Frankel and Michael Korie—the songwriting team of Grey Gardens and Far From Heaven—with Tony Award- and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Wright (Grey Gardens, I Am My Own Wife, The Little Mermaid).

The musical was nominated for four Tony Awards, including two nods to Ebersole and LuPone who both were both nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical. The show was also nominated for Best Scenic Design of a Musical, and Best Costume Design of a Musical.
Next year, Carnegie Hall's house band will perform Bernstein’s “Kaddish” Symphony, unfinished works by Schubert, and the final concert of Conductor Bernard Labadie.
