We're all ears! Shucked, the musical comedy coming to Broadway in March, has released a new music video featuring composers Brandy Clark and Shane McAnally performing "Maybe Love." The ballad, which is the first song publicly released from the upcoming musical, is accompanied by footage of the company in rehearsals prior to their March 8 first preview at the Nederlander.
Details on the plot of this original comedy are scarce, with press notes revealing little more about the "farm-to-fable musical" than a collection of corn puns: "Shucked is about to turn Broadway on its ear and offer a kernel of hope for our divided nation."
Shucked will star Alex Newell, Ashley D. Kelley, John Behlmann, Kevin Cahoon, Andrew Durand, Grey Henson, and Caroline Innerbichler. The new musical has a book by Tony winner Robert Horn and a score by the Grammy-winning songwriting team of Clark and McAnally. Three-time Tony winner Jack O'Brien is at the helm.
Included in the ensemble of Shucked are Jimmy Brewer, Audrey Cardwell, Dwayne Clark, Rheaume Crenshaw, Jaygee Macapugay, Scott Stangland, Yasmeen Sulieman, and Quinn VanAntwerp. The swings are Miki Abraham, Ken Clark, Traci Elaine Lee, and Alan Wiggins.
Shucked will also feature choreography by Sarah O’Gleby and music supervision, music direction, orchestrations, and arrangements by Tony nominee Jason Howland. Scott Pask is the scenic designer with Tilly Grimes as the costume designer.
Opening night at the Nederlander Theatre is slated for April 4. It has also been announced that Shucked will offer preview pricing, with orchestra seats to all previews available for as low as $69.
