Film & TV News Watch Meteor Shower’s Laura Benanti Reprise Her Melania Trump The Tony winner appeared in character on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.

Tony winner Laura Benanti, back on Broadway in Tony nominee and comedian Steve Martin’s new play Meteor Shower, returned to The Late Show November 30 to reprise her impression of First Lady Melania Trump. In recent weeks, Trump’s first wife, Ivana Trump, has been making comments about the First Lady; Benanti (as Melania) appeared on the late-night show to respond.

Most recently, Benanti was Tony-nominated for her performance as Amalia Balash in the 2016 revival of She Loves Me at Roundabout Theatre Company. In 2011, she was Tony-nominated for her work in Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, for which she won the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Featured Actress in a Musical. She won both the Tony and Drama Desk Awards for her starring role as Louise in Gypsy. Prior to that she was Tony-nominated for Swing! in 2000 and Into the Woods in 2002.

In Meteor Shower, Benanti stars alongside actors Amy Schumer and Keegan-Michael Key (making their Broadway debuts after establishing themselves in the world of comedy), as well as Tony-nominated actor Jeremy Shamos. The play opened November 29 at Broadway’s Booth Theatre and runs through January 21, 2018.
