Broadway Cares launched its new annual concert event, Broadway Dream Roles, this past April at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre (the current home of Moulin Rouge! The Musical).
The evening featured a mix of Broadway favorites and rising stars stepping into roles they have longed to play, but never had the opportunity to. Each performance had a story attached, whether it was a role the artist narrowly missed, a wish never voiced aloud, or more.
Olivier winner Lesli Margherita, who played Tessie Tura in the recent revival of Gypsy, got the chance to perform King George's Hamilton showstopper, "You'll Be Back." Watch the Broadway favorite's comedic performance of the Lin-Manuel Miranda tune in the video above. Tony winner Jonathan Groff originated the role of King George in the Pulitzer Prize-winning musical, now celebrating its 10th anniversary on Broadway at the Richard Rodgers Theatre.
Two-time Tony winner Kara Young hosted the one-night-only event, which also featured Erich Bergen, Emmy winner and Tony nominee Liz Callaway, Olivier winner and 2025 Tony nominee Tom Francis, Grammy and Tony winner Jennifer Holliday, Jimin Moon, Zachary Noah Piser, The Broadway Boys, two-time Tony winner Andrea Martin, Operation Mincemeat's David Cumming, Claire-Marie Hall, Natasha Hodgson, Jak Malone, and Zoë Roberts, and 2024 Jimmy Award winner Damson Chola Jr.
Jasmine Amy Rogers, who received a 2025 Tony nomination for her performance in the title role of BOOP! The Musical, closed the evening with Broadway Cares’ mobilizing anthem, “Help Is on the Way,” written by David Friedman.
