Frances Ruffelle returns to the New York stage with her new cabaret-storytelling hybrid, Frances Ruffelle Live(S) in New York. The show will play The Green Room 42 at Yotel October 8.
In the video above, Ruffelle sits down with Playbill at the Yotel terrace to discuss the project and offer a sample of what audiences can expect. “My show is about my failed relationships, actually—my heartbreak—and getting through life and moving to New York. Getting empowered again and falling in love again.”
The Tony winner starts with a song by an artist to whom she holds a deep personal connection: Édith Piaf. “I have listened to Édith Piaf since I was a little girl, and I learned a lot of her songs,” she said before performing the staple “Non, Je ne regrette rien” (“No Regrets”) alongside guitarist Tim Basom. A Piaf song also helped her win her breakout role of Eponine during auditions for Les Misérables.
During the show, Ruffelle will be joined by Craig Bierko (whom she is dating). The Music Man Tony nominee and UnReal star took to the terrace floor with Ruffelle and Basom to sing a cover of John Prine’s “All the Way With You.”
The Green Room 42 is located on 570 Tenth Avenue. Tickets are available here.
