Members of the Broadway community—including many of this year's Tony Award nominees and honorees—gathered at the Sofitel New York June 4 for the annual Tony Awards cocktail party. During the event, Special Awards were presented to the previously announced recipients.
In the video above, Jason Danieley takes the podium to accept his late wife Marin Mazzie's Special Tony, awarded to her posthumously in recognition to her advocacy in the theatre community and support of women's health initiatives.
"We are pausing together to recognize something way beyond Marin's extraordinary work as an actor," he said. "We are celebrating how revered she is for who she was—for who she still is—to us and for us as a community."
Awards were also presented to Broadway Inspirational Voices (accepted by Michael McElroy), Choir Boy arranger Jason Michael Webb, Scenic Art Studio's Joseph Blakeley Forbes, The Shubert Organization's Peter Entin, and King Kong puppet designers Sonny Tilders and Creature Technology Company (accepted by Jacob Williams). Watch their speeches below.
The 73rd Annual Tony Awards will take place June 9 at Radio City Music Hall. James Corden will return to host, having hosted the ceremony in 2016.
